Respite
We have three different ways of offering respite to families.
Families’ own circumstances will determine which service is offered and the frequency of this service. Some families’ circumstances may mean they will benefit from a combination of all of the services. This will be fully discussed at the initial meeting or at service reviews.
1. Respite Care Service
Children are cared for at the home of fully vetted and assessed respite carers for periods varying from a few hours through to overnight care. Parents are expected to take their child/ren to the carer’s home at the time previously agreed and collect them at the end of the session. Parents will meet the carer in their home before any respite begins, except in emergency situations when this is not possible.
2. Respite Sitter Service
Children are cared for in their own home by fully vetted Respite Sitters for a few hours to allow a parent to go out. When appropriate, an overnight service can be provided, however this is not our normal procedure and would always be planned in advance. Respite Sitters visit the home at previously agreed times and parents must ensure they return home before the end of the session. Parents will meet the Respite Sitter before the respite sessions begin, except in emergency situations when this is not possible.
3. Centre Based Respite
The T.O.F.F.E.E. Club provides respite during school holidays to primary school aged children. The service is run from a local school, currently St Annes Primary School, David Street, Parkhead and provides play opportunities for children as well as a break for parents.
The service is delivered in partnership with East End Mobile Playteam who provide the playworkers to deliver the service. Sessions are offered on a daily basis from 10am to 3pm and children are expected to bring a packed lunch. A maximum of 24 places per session is available and families are advised in advance if they have been allocated any sessions.
When there is a big demand for The T.O.F.F.E.E. Club we sometimes try to arrange additional childcare places from other childcare services, e.g. Afterschool Places. We cannot however guarantee these places and all families must meet the referral criteria.
